Can I just tell you what an awesome year 2016 was? I loved on some sweet tiny babies, I giggled with children in the sun this spring and explored making memories while photographing everything this fall. This time last year I had no clue that we were going to sell our “forever house” and move in town during the summer craziness of my husbands hvac business. But I am glad we did. Everything has changed and this year I am preparing for 2017 with a much simpler business plan in mind. If you had a session with me you likely know that I am a little crazy but always remain professional and consistent with the goal of providing images you didn’t know you needed. There will be more change and exciting things in the works as I hope to grow and stretch every single year.

Seriously... is it November? This weather is so nice I can't help but keep taking photos! The light is amazing and the sky >> WOW! I am truly blessed to have such wonderful people allow me to capture their moments year after year but you newbies keep me on my toes! What a fun fall it has been :D I love my job. This spring is going to be just as amazing. New beginnings and sweet little babies in front of my camera. Planning for Santa Decorating to get started early next week in Louisburg. I just got all of the ornaments and can not wait to get started then SANTA MINI NEXT WEEKEND! Red and White this year.

Summer is over...

Sent the kids off to school... its crazy I have a seventh grader!!! Haven't been at the computer all summer. Somebody is getting a sister

Mommy and Daddy drove down to have their photos taken this weekend and the weather was perfect! Lots of wonderful light in the country. 29 days and Princess Parker will be here but her big brother isn't too sure about it.

I love my clients! Next thing I know we become friends and even though it is my job to capture memories and milestones I sure love watching these little ones grow.

Why I can't answer the question "What do you charge?"

WHAT DO YOU CHARGE? I get asked this question almost daily.  I can't answer it.  Honestly, I can't.  I need more information.  I mean I'm not crazy, I realize you want to know how much you can expect to spend but the truth is, YOU determine how much you spend.  I can't do that for you.  As a full-service photographer, I offer albums, framed wall portraits, canvas gallery wraps, folio boxes with matted prints, large prints & fine-art prints as well as digital collections! You name it, chances are we sell it.

Think of my business like you would any other retail establishment. Would you call a furniture store and say "What are your prices?" What would you expect the answer to be?  THIS is why I can't answer that question.  There are so many different options! 

I decided long ago, when I opened the studio, I would not take a photography job with no discussion with my clients, shoot it and then just hand out a disk.  Why? Because (for me) I feel like it's a HUGE disservice to my clients.  My mom has photos in boxes at her house of all of the craziness our family did when I was a kid, my grandma has shoe boxes full of memories and like 500 of the same picture. I just couldn't throw them away. Even after giving grandmas, moms, aunts and uncles, pictures I still had 300!

 I look back at that and wish I had had the experience of a custom portrait session; that someone would have sat down with me and explained this ... "These are YOUR children.  These images are for YOU to enjoy.  You don't need 5 8x10's and 50 wallets of the same picture.  You need 1 or 2 beautiful portraits to commemorate this time in their lives.  A piece that you can look back on, years down the road and be reminded of this age." For this very reason, I've chosen to treat my business as a retail establishment.  This means that I sell products, as well as service.  I don't want you leaving with a disk that you put in a drawer and never do anything with.

Before you even decide to hire me as a photographer, I invite you to a complimentary consultation.  This is when we discuss together, what YOU want out of your portrait session.  We discuss the different products and what they cost individually. It's about more than JUST having pictures taken.  It's about sitting down with me and discussing what type portraits you want and designing a wall gallery for your home.  It's about saying "I don't have much wall space, what else can we do?".  It's about YOU leaving with something tangible in your hands.  Even if that "something" is a digital collection, you will still walk out with a product we have created together and one that YOU have decided is best for you.  
And then, 10 years from now, you can glance up at that space on the wall and you will remember "That was right before she lost her first tooth".  You'll remember, "He had the funniest crawl! It was like a crab walk!". THAT is what I sell.  Reminders of moments, only you can decide how you want to be reminded.

Hello Spring.

Trying to stay caught up with the new way of doing things around here is an adjustment but I am getting better... I know it seems like I dont post online as much but that is because it is so much fun waiting for the client to see the proofs in person. The emotion and experience is just perfect. I truly love creating art for each of you but the reaction of seeing your images at the ordering session... THAT is my new love. Posting online and getting tons of "likes" is nice too but the emotion from the viewing session is priceless. I just wanted to thank all of you for loving what I do.

Spring is here, kind of... I mean it was 80 and windy yesterday and today is calling for snow but spring break is over. My kids are back to the grind of school and sports... so its springish :) I have a few dates available on my calendar if you want to book a session before June 1st please let me know asap. Remember when you hire me to capture your memories it is SOOOO much more than just taking pictures.

Hello.

Hello from the other side. LOL no but really... it seems like I have been gone forever. Doing whatever it is that I do everyday and I just wanted to stop in and say HELLO! Things are changing (as you all know because I keep posting about that) but not scary changes... just awesome changes.

I don't want anyone to think that the NO DIGITAL IMAGES is to make anyone angry or be a jerk and honestly I have had several people ask "what is that all about??" we have talked and I have listened. I know that everyone enjoys sharing images online. ME TOO!! I am also guilty of not printed the images I take. This makes me sad and I do not want that to happen to you after you receive the images from your photo session on a disc and then just let it sit there waiting to print... when you have the time.

Well let me say this... I have not completely ruled out selling my digital images. They are still an option and I appreciate everyone who gave an honest reason why they were important to them. BUT I do feel that the products I am offering this year will blow your socks off!

I could not have said it better myself

To the local photographer who copies everything I do,

Everybody says, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” But I’m pretty sure that whoever started that saying was a copycat themselves… because I’m not flattered. I’m mad as hell.  

I work so hard to separate myself from every other photographer in town. I invested in custom branding from a talented graphic designer. I spent days deciding which website template I should choose. I wrote my bio and then rewrote it and then rewrote it again. And then I scrapped it and did exactly twenty three more revisions until it was absolutely perfect.

And lo and behold, not three weeks later, you launch your new website. And you used the same template I did. Your branding looks eerily similar. And even your bio… it sounds like a knockoff version of mine. And we live in the same city! So yeah. I’m not flattered. I’m mad.

I mean, I know my new website looks fantastic, but you had to know that you had literally a thousand other options for website templates, branding and yes, even your bio. But you didn’t stop there with your copycat ways.

I’ve noticed that every time I offer a promo, you do too. When I started shooting a lot of my sessions at the local dairy farm, you did too. You aren’t just content to copy my online presence, you want to copy everything about my business, from my website to my style to favorite poses and locations. It must be exhausting for you. (Seriously though, how do you find the time to copy everything I do and still keep up on editing?)

I’ve been photographing kids for seven years, working hard to develop a style all my own, so I understand why you’re drawn to it. But running a successful photography business isn’t about following a formula. It’s about finding yourself as an artist and creating a business around your style.

You need to step away from the internet and do some soul-searching. You won’t figure out who you are as an artist and a photographer on someone else’s website. You won’t find it in their bio. You won’t discover how you best connect with your clients by copying someone else’s posing or going to the same locations. The beautiful thing about photography is that it’s personal. But the only way you can find out who you are is by looking inside.

See, I know you just want to make your mark. But you’re going about it all wrong. You should be trying to build a business based on your style, not mine. The sooner you figure out who you are as a photographer, the better. Because every day that you spend copying others is a waste… instead of moving your business forward, you’re moving backward. It’s time to stop copying and figure out your own style. I promise it will be worth the effort.

Big changes...

 I was starting to find myself getting frustrated that others couldn’t see the value in what it is that I do. Taking pictures is only part of it and now a days EVERYONE has a camera. Some spend more money on theirs than others. I cannot compare with what they do nor do I want to. I love that everyone enjoys photography but when you hire me to capture images for you it’s not just a quick snap, throw on a filter and burn a cd. I pour my heart into all of my images and I decided last summer that I can’t just give my work away.

I love my job and each of you who step in front of my camera. You share your story with me and for that I am truly grateful. I have decided that I am no longer going to sell my digital negatives. Full service photography this year… not to brag or anything but you are going to fall in love with the entire experience. From the pre-consult to the ordering session and everything in between! It is going to be so much fun.

So for all of you who have stuck with me since day one please know that I cherish your memories and I know this is a BIG change but I promise if you decide to hire me you will love every minute of it!
